Junior Achievement
May 13, 2013

Junior Achievement (JA) empowers young people to own their economic success. Our volunteer-delivered, kindergarten-12th grade programs foster work-readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy skills, and use experiential learning to inspire students to dream big and reach their potential.

On May 13, KPMG Accounting Firm visited The Casimir Pulaski School and spent the day with them teaching them a wide range of topics from Kindergarten through 8th grade. All of the students had a lot of fun and learned a lot during the day and they very thankful to KPMG for taking time out of their busy schedules to spend the day with us.

COPING WITH BULLYING

Pulaski Hosts Biggest Loser - Becomes Biggest Winner

Most often associated with helping adults improve physical assets, “The Biggest Loser” trainer Brett Hoebel visited Casmir Pulaski School to encourage students to develop their inner strength. The celebrity’s appearance supported the District’s ongoing anti-bullying initiatives and the school’s International Baccalaureate Primary Years fifth grade project, which invites students to research, reflect and act.

“This is such a great program,” explained Pulaski Principal Brian Curtis. “Bullying is such a confidence issue, and being confident about who are you is part of Mr. Hoebel’s message.”

Attention Casimir Pulaski Community:

UPDATE 9/14/12:  Our program was funded and the books are on the way.  Thank you so much for everyone who supported us along the way.

Our 8th grade students are looking forward to reading the book called THE WAR HORSE. Mrs. Oliveira posted a project proposal on the website called
Donorschoose.org. The title of the project is MAKING HISTORY COME ALIVE: THE WAR HORSE. Anyone interested in making a donation to help our students get copies of this great book is greatly appreciated.
THANK YOU!

So the Mayor came in to share his dream as a little boy to be the Yonkers Mayor and to answer questions from the students about his duties as the Mayor connecting the neighborhood theme. Parents, administration and channel 12 came in to celebrate the completion of this IB unit of inquiry. The students enjoyed seeing themselves on TV!  Video coming soon.

Blythdale Children's Hospital nutritionists visited Pulaski. They provided age appropriate nutrition lessons for grades K-8. The children learned the fundamentals of a healthy diet and lifestyle through interactive nutrition lessons in the class rooms.

FRANKIE (the dog) AND DR. MOORE

We learned about how animals can impact our health, hygiene, and wellness. Dr. Moore is a veterinarian from Texas and came to us in Yonkers! She came from Texas a few months ago and now she lives in the city! She works very hard and she loved coming to our school. Since pets bring us happiness she brought in Frankie her dog. Frankie was born on June1, 2010 and he is now 2 years old. Everyone smiled at Frankie and loved him. So students of PreK-1st grade and some 7th graders got to pet him if they wanted to. Dr. Moore gave us a lot of information about pets and the role they play in our lives.
